### Calculation of required volume of concentrated HCl solution

HCl amount in final solution is given by concentrated HCl solution. Therefore,

• HCl amount given by concentrated HCl solution = HCl amount in final solution
• C1V1 = C2V2

• C1 = concentration of concentrated HCl solution
• V1 = volume of concentrated HCl solution
• C2 = concentration of final solution
• V2 = volume of final solution

• 1 * V1 = 0.1 * 500
• V1 = 50 cm3

Because, C1, C2 and V2 are given as data, we can calculate unknown data of V1. So, now we know the required volume of concentrated HCl solution.

### Calculation of volume of distilled water

Final volume is the summation of volume of concentrated HCl solution and volume of distilled water. Therfore, volume of distilled water is calculated from following equation.

• volume of distilled water = volume of final solution - volume of concentrated HCl solution
• volume of distilled water = 500 - 50
• volume of distilled water = 450 cm3
